So, you’re due a LOST recap. Instead of traditionally esoteric ramble, I’m going to just bullet point my many individual thoughts on what was an undeniably fantastic premiere, the best of any season unless you count the pilot. (And please, vote in my poll to the left on who’s in the coffin.)·KEEPING THE MOMENTUM GOING: whereas in the past few years they’ve used the season premiere to focus on a small group of individuals and bring in a new mindbender, this year, they picked up where they left off with pretty much everyone. All of the intensity from the flash-forwards and lingering questions and possible escape from the end of last season has carried over into this season really well. I’m glad we didn’t spend the whole time just with Jack or just with Hurley, but spread the episode out over everyone pretty well.
·BACK TO THE FUTURE: I’ve heard dissenting views, but I’m pretty psyched over the Oceanic 6 arc. I know there are still about 4,815,162,342 questions that need answering from the first three seasons, but what’s so great about this new “mystery” is it’s about the characters. I’ve never felt so invested in them as people rather than elements in a mythology and that’s only going to make every action resonate more. And the flash-forward elements are really driving that. They give an eerie weight to everything that’s happening in island-time.
·JORGE GARCIA, FUTURE EMMY NOMINEE?: Hurley’s whole arc was, I thought beautifully written and wonderfully performed. His acting has never been better and I was moved by both his time with ghost Charlie and Claire. Of course, Hurley now has us wondering: why does he regret going with Locke?
·LITTLE CREEPY HINTS: Was that really Jack’s dad in Jacob’s chair? Doc Jensen says so, but I’m not convinced. What the heck did Charlie mean by “I’m dead, but I’m here”? Is he a ghost, or he is operating on some kind of paranormal wavelength, much like the whispers Sayid heard in the woods by Rousseau’s camp? Or is Hurley just guilty/crazy? Remember his imaginary friend Dave? Are Dave and Ghost Charlie kind of the same thing? And I think my favorite: the guy from The Wire showing up at Hurley’s nut house and asking if “they” are still there. Clearly, the Oceanic 6 abandoned a number of survivors—perhaps very specifically betrayed them—in order to get home. Locke seems a prime candidate for someone who’s still happily whiddling coconut bark on the island…but who else is?
·2 MINOR QUIBBLES: So Naomi, who has a freaking knife in her back, can a) crawl away without any of the thirtysomething people around her noticing and b) create a fake trail and crawl up into a tree to attack Kate? Give me a break. And why did Kate steal the phone and make her own little sojourn? What was the point of that?
In the end, I’m just so thankful it’s back that I would’ve even been ok with an episode about how Kate has issues about staying in one place. But it truly was a very strong episode that seems to be ushering in a very exciting season that will answer questions while also getting us more invested in the characters. I didn't think it could be done, but here we are...

Good recap dude, but did you see the mobisodes? If you don't know what they are, go here (http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Mobisode)
If you do know what they are, but you thought the first few were kinda lame and stopped watching, go here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X9M0FTWACU)
And if you already saw it, then say it with me: WTF?
Yeah, I watched most of them (http://www.rightnexttomars.com/2008/01/kinda-obsessed-second-week-of-january.html) but I don't know that they actually add all that much...except for the one where a certain gifted child is using birds to freak out a certain group of island dwellers.
Yeah, I agree most of them were useless. (#11 was lame.) But the last one (on youtube but not yet abc.com) involves a certain dead guy talking to a certain animal about helping a certain main character. Pretty wild, methinks.
Do we know for sure that it's a guy in the coffin?
I'm almost positive that Jack said "he" at some point during the finale. And I know from inside sources that it is indeed a male.
I thought I remembered it being ambiguous. I do remember Kate saying, "I have to go. He'll be waiting."
So you have fancy-schmancy inside sources, huh?
Locke's in the coffin. He's the only character that would have no one show up to his funeral.
And unless the writer's totally sell out, Sawyer must be one of the six, since Kate's clearly shacking up with someone and he's the only other choice that we've ever met.
Couldn't Kate have been referring to the son she's pregnant with on the island? (This is, of course, speculation on my part.)
I hope I'm wrong and that her and Sawyer are shacking up, but you never know. And I really don't think it's Locke in the coffin.
I think we may see someone else betray them all and/or get on everyone's bad side soon.
First off, Austin doesn't know what he's talking about. Who would show up at Ben's funeral? Or Claire's funeral? Or Sayid's funeral?
Plus there are other characters where I can only think of one logical person that would come to the funeral: Jin, Sawyer, Michael
That one person I can think of could be dead by the time of the funeral or could have been betrayed for whatever reason.
Second, Kate being with Sawyer would make sense, yes. I did think she was possibly referring to her baby, though. Plus, a lot has happened between the island right now and that flash-forward. Maybe she's with someone else.
Locke doesn't want to get off the island though... so what are the odds he's one of the 6 that gets to? Doesn't seem like Bernard/Rose will want to either (the whole cancer thing). We've got Desmond's flashes of Claire+baby boarding a helicopter so odds are that they're 2 (or are they 1 since the baby wasn't really a survivor of the plane crash?). Anyhow, my guess is this (with a few *'s):
Claire
baby
Jack
Kate*
whoever is in the coffin**
Hurley
*A friend of mine brought up a good point about Kate being one of the Oceanic 6. There's a chance she's outside of the 6... she couldn't exactly have a normal homecoming given her criminal history. Clearly, she hasn't served her timen for all the people she killed... so she may be back and a little hidden, and it's really the Oceanic 6(+1). Makes sense given the random location she meets Jack.
Thus, whoever she's shacked up with (but to me... it didn't sound like she was too thrilled to be stuck living with whoever it was), probably isn't Sawyer. I'm thinking, without anything really but a gut instinct, that whatever deal them made with Dharma to get the hell off the island involved Kate being bound to someone we don't know yet.
**And as for who was in that coffin... let's remember. There's a lot of time between "not our primary objective" parachuter and the viewing of the body. Anyone could make a huge mistake and anger Kate that much. Sawyer could act selfishly and piss her off. Locke could change his mind and get off the island due to whatever shitstorm we're about to see. And it has been brought up that it could be Ben (but then he wouldn't be one of the "6," and I'm pretty sure Dharma's going to want him dead). Regardless, the coffin wasn't too big... so I'm doubting it's Hurley (too insenstive?)..
I liked your 4,815,262,342. Clever.
Kate can't be shacking up with Sawyer; it's too obvious. I think he's the one in the coffin.
Doy. How'd I forget to leave Sawyer off the list on the poll? It could definitely be him. I can easily see how he would have made enemies with the other Oceanic 5.
Also, who thinks that one of the 6 wasn't on the plane? I think they may have faked Juliet or Ben (more likely the former) as a "survivor" to get them off. But you never know.
I love that once I finally post about LOST, I get more comments than ever since I started the blog. I'm glad the obsession is so widespread.
Getting off the island doesn't necessarily require having wanted to get off the island. Perhaps the "rescuers" have instructions to take a certain six off the island -- for some unknown reason.
That's a good point about Kate not being part of the 6. I had the theory that more people got off than 6 but are hidden for some reason, but I didn't really think to apply it to Kate.
I don't think it's Sawyer in the coffin, but I also don't think he's the person she has to get back to.
And yeah, Desmond saw Claire get on a helicopter, but no one said that helicopter was taking anyone to safety.
